Abstract

A brief summary on the ocassion of the 50th Clinixperience article in Laser Partner Journal.

 

Golden jubilee

Fifty is a special number in many aspects. Even though it is much better to be a millionaire than to own a mere fifty, even though there are songs about a sweet little sixteen but not a single one about a fifty-year-old, and no tennis game is played till reaching fifty, but after forty they only count advantages instead, this figure has a certain charisma, making an impression of maturity and seriousness. And this is just what we hope that Laser Partner has reached being fifty and celebrating its golden jubilee.

When the first number of Laser Partner has apeared, almost four years ago, only a few of us were not affraid of this project. It is fair to admit that we had been affraid very much, whether we would be able to gather necessary number of scientific papers and articles, whether we would be able to catch the fancy of medical public, whether the on-line internet form would be competitive to hard-cover printed magazines, whether technical facilities would be able to host the project, whether, whether, whether... There were so many whethers and what-ifs. However, not only did Laser Partner manage to survive the first year, but it has even grown up, grown strong, and, with only a little bit of exaggeration, grown into a beauty. 

 

Golden idea

The purpose of Laser Partner has always been very simple. We wanted to create an endless source of information on laser medicine, accessible to everybody, at any time, everywhere. The Internet makes it all possible, let us thank Jan Marek for a brilliant idea about the on-line form. There are numerous books devoted to laser medicine. However, it is the fate of all books to turn old just at the same moment they are published. On the other hand, an on-line journal grows never old, new articles appear again and again, reflecting new ideas, new protocols, and new results. It can live a life of its own. 

Apart from its main internet form you can also find hard copies of Laser Partner printed on special ocassions, such as annual international medical exhibitions (Prague, Brno, Duesseldorf) or international medical laser congresses (Brno, Moscow, Wellington, Chennai). It is also possible to subscribe hard copies of Laser Partner articles, to have them sent and keep them in a special file. 

During a relatively short time Laser Partner has made its good name. Nowadays it is a respected "periodical", also thanks to having obtained an official ISSN code. Every month Laser Partner brings one or two new papers which are discussed among experts and informing the public about laser medicine. Laser Partner has also started being quoted in scientific papers, although obtaining an impact factor may take some time yet ... Apart from medical experts, who are obviously the main target group, Laser Partner is also used by commercial and distribution companies for training its salesmen and customers. It is a great honor for us to be aproached by professional medical societies, since 2000 Laser Partner has became an oficial media of the Czech Society for the Use of Laser in Medicine (CLS), and the European Medical Laser Association (EMLA) at its meeting in 2001 in Nice has taken over an official scientific patronage. 

 

Golden summary

In its four volumes Laser Partner has brought 50 articles in total. The main group of articles are devoted to individual medical specialties, informing about the possibilities of the use of laser in individual branches of medicine. So far the following subjects have been published:

Ear acupuncture	Dentistry	Dermatology
Cosmetics	Paediatrics	Veterinary medicine

This list lacks orthopedics, sports medicine, out-patients surgery, pain management and some other specialties. We will work on them, however we will also be getting back to disciplines already published in order to follow new development and new practices.

Another large group consists of articles aimed at specific laser applications and interesting case studies, such as:

Laser Partner also deals with theoretical issues of laser medicine. So far we have been informing on the following subjects:

Golden people

Laser Partner could not exist without its authors, editorial board and technical backgrounds. Therefore my special thanks belong to Dr. Horak, the Chairman of the Czech Society for the Use of Laser in Medicine for scientific and organization support, Dr. Prochazka, a member of committees of the Czech Laser Society and of EMLA for his valuable scientific and practical work, Dr. Navratil for his selfless co-operation, Prof. Hubacek for his understanding, kind favour and extensive publications, Prof. Simunovic and Dr. Trobonjaca for their support in EMLA, Dr. Tunér for sharing articles with Laser World, Dr. Volkov for creating a professional forum in New Zealand. I very much appreciate the credit and efforts of all domestic and foreign authors.

All scientific efforts and medical papers would mean nothing without proper technical backgrounds and web hospitality, generously provided by MediCom Laser Company with the kind approval of Jan Marek, the General Manager, and Pavel Valach, the President of MediCom. It should be also mentioned that almost all the articles have been written on the basis of authors` work and experience with MediCom lasers. Last but not least we have to thank our webmaster Peter Kozusko for his endless patience.
